Our vision is for Pasifika students to be leaders in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).
Our mission is to accelerate Pasifika young people’s participation in STEAM through project-based learning. WeSTEM projects introduce students to science skills and highlight career pathways through collaboration with local STEAM experts, with whom they work to tackle local challenges.
WeSTEM is an initiative of Te Hononga Akoranga COMET and is funded by the Ministry for Pacific Peoples' Toloa Community Impact fund.
WHAT WE OFFER #
We fund innovative projects that give west Auckland young people new opportunities to experience science and technology through hands-on activities and collaborative research. The WeSTEM programme offers:
- Funding grants of up to $10,000 (ex GST) for STEAM research projects
- Advice and in-depth support to develop your funding application
- Connection with educators, STEAM professionals and community partners
- Ongoing project support
- Learning and networking opportunities for WeSTEM project participants
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR #
We support research projects that are:
- Growing the capacity of Pasifika STEAM. Projects must include at least 50% Pasifika students or community participants.
- Community-driven. Projects must be locally relevant and involve community members.
- Connected with the industry role models. Young people will work collaboratively with STEAM professionals, who will share their knowledge, skills and passion to show students the potential of STEAM research.
- Educational. Projects offer enduring educational value for the young people involved and two-way learning between the wider community and science partners.
Expressions of Interest for the 2024/25 funding period must be submitted by 30 August 2024.
APPLICATION PROCESS #
Anyone in the west Auckland local board areas can apply for project funding. We can support you to connect with educators, STEAM experts and community partners in your area.
Project funding is limited, so get your application in early for the best chances of being funded.
EOIs are due 30 August 2024, with full applications to be submitted by 20 September 2024.
