Social media gets job seekers to highlight talents - (Waatea News & YEP)

Posted on 13 October 2020

Auckland-based education trust COMET wants to help rangatahi find work.

Spokesperson Noa Woolloff says young people have been hit hard economically by COVID-19, with a 62 percent increase in 20 to 24 year olds going on to Job Seeker benefits during the first lockdown.

COMET's new #MoreThanNEETsTheEye campaign aims to break negative stereotypes and help rangatahi Māori in particular overcome any whakamā about seeking help.

"There's an amazing amount of organisations out there who are keen to support you. They are there to help you find a job. Definitely do so. There is no shame or stigma attached to that," Mr Woolloff says.

COMET is asking people aged between 14 - 24, to post a photo or video showcasing their skill or talent to Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #MoreThanNEETsTheEye.

They will be in to win an iPhone11 and six months free mobile data.
