To show young people the value of science skills and to highlight career pathways through collaborations with local STEM businesses, researchers and engineers.
Our vision is for all South Auckland children to be leaders in STEM education & innovation. (STEM - science, technology, engineering and mathematics.)
South Sci is an initiative of COMET and Curious Minds - He Whenua Hihiri i te Mahara.
We fund innovative projects that give South Auckland young people more opportunities to experience science and technology through hands-on activities and collaborative research.
For example, you could be cleaning up the streams in your neighbourhood and might want to know what chemicals are in the water. We could work with you to design a research project. You could then be paired up to work with local scientists to analyse the samples in a laboratory – and then start to try and fix the pollution issue.
Schools, universities, community and iwi groups are encouraged to apply.
You can apply for up to $20,000, but can co-fund from other sources.
Projects must be based within the south Auckland local boards.
Length of the project is usually one year but is flexible.
Projects must be a collaboration between the community, STEM professionals and young people.
Due dates are: 29th January, 26th February and 26th March
